Yuki: Exhibiting with the Society of Feline Artists
17 October – 15 November 2026
This autumn, I am delighted to be exhibiting Yuki with the Society of Feline Artists (S.O.F.A.), in its Winter Exhibition from 17 October to 15 November 2026.
It feels particularly special to see Yuki included in an exhibition devoted entirely to feline art. S.O.F.A. has been bringing together artists who share a love of cats and a passion for representing them in art since 1994, with artists working across a wide range of media and styles.
Yuki
Yuki is a large-scale oil painting and the first work in my Close-Up Figures series. I wanted to move away from the traditional idea of a cat portrait and instead create something much more intimate, bringing the viewer close to the animal, almost into its space.
The painting is deliberately cropped. We see Yuki at close range, with the face becoming the whole experience of the painting: the eyes, the texture of the fur, the subtle changes of colour and, above all, the quiet presence of the cat. There is something about living with cats that makes these small moments feel enormous. A look across the room. The way they settle into silence. The particular character contained in their eyes. That is what I wanted to hold onto in Yuki. Rather than simply painting what Yuki looks like, I wanted to paint something of what it feels like to be close to her.
An exhibition for cat lovers — and art lovers
One of the things I particularly enjoy about a S.O.F.A. exhibition is that there is no single way of painting a cat. The Society brings together artists working in different media and approaches, from oils and watercolour to drawing, pastel, printmaking and sculpture. The work encompasses both domestic cats and wild cats, and the exhibitions bring together artists, cat lovers and collectors. So although Yuki will be there, she will be part of a much larger conversation about cats and art.
If you love cats, I hope you will take some time to explore the exhibition and discover the work of the many other talented artists taking part. You may find a completely different interpretation of feline character that speaks to you, perhaps a painting, drawing or sculpture that you would never have encountered otherwise.
And that, for me, is one of the pleasures of an exhibition: going in looking for one thing and discovering something unexpected.
Yuki is for sale
Yuki will be offered for sale during the exhibition at £8,000. It is a substantial original oil painting, created as part of the beginning of my Close-Up Figures series, and represents an important step in the direction I am taking with my work. I have become increasingly interested in paintings that are quiet but commanding, paintings that can hold a room without shouting for attention.
Yuki is one of those paintings for me.
I would love you to see her
If you are a cat lover, an art lover, a collector, or simply curious to see what happens when feline art is treated as serious contemporary painting, I hope you will visit the S.O.F.A. exhibition.
The Winter Exhibition runs from 17 October to 15 November 2026 in the Society of Feline Artists' online gallery.
Take a look at Yuki, but don't stop there. Spend some time exploring the other artists, too. There will be plenty of wonderful feline art to discover, with very different styles, techniques and interpretations of our extraordinary companions.
And if Yuki happens to stay with you, and you have the space for a very large, very quiet cat, she will be available to collect as an original work for £8,000.
