Muta

art

2026

Oil on canvas | 180 × 120 cm

Muta continues my exploration of intimacy, scale and presence within the Close-Up Figures series.

Through an unusually close crop, a familiar subject becomes an almost abstract composition of colour, light and movement. Silver fur reveals unexpected shades of blue, violet, warm cream and charcoal, while expressive brushstrokes contrast with the carefully observed details of the face.

The monumental scale invites the viewer to encounter Muta beyond the conventions of traditional animal portraiture.

Like Yuki, Muta is not simply a study of appearance, but an exploration of individuality and the quiet intensity of a familiar gaze.

A painting about looking closely, and discovering more than we first see.
